Welcome to Kamarich Standard Schnauzers.  I am Karen Rich and I am located in the southwestern corner of Virginia, in the town of Hillsville.

I am a hobby breeder, who breeds one or two litters of black Standard Schnauzers a year.  A spring litter is usually whelped.  If I have a waiting list, I will also breed a fall litter.  I breed for pet or companion only and all of my puppies are sold on an AKC limited (non-breeding) registration.

In 2001, I decided to take an early retirement from my job in San Diego, California  and start a new life in rural Virginia.

Here, I have five fenced aces of land where my dogs can run and play.

I purchased my first Standard Schnauzer, a pet quality black male, in the mid 80’s. Randy was a wonderful family member and the love of my life.  He passed away in 2001, just a few months after relocating to Virginia.

After much research into black Standard Schnauzer breeders.  I ordered my first breeding stock from Skansens in California.  Gabby was purchased in 2001 and Derek was purchased in 2002.  In my attempt to improve on my breeding line and the rich black color, I have since imported dogs from three European breeders:  Martina Kapralkova and Martina Miksova in the Czech Republic and Marina Egorsheva in Russia .

In 2006, I added Miniature Schnauzers to my family since I was then volunteering with Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas. I imported my Miniatures from breeders in Europe since I was unsure of U.S. breeders.  I felt that I needed stable playmates for the Minis that I was fostering.  Many of these little foster dogs came from puppymills where they had been locked in cages all their lives.  I do NOT breed my Miniature Schnauzers.

All my dogs are my pets.  There may be one or two in the show ring but most are just happy-go-lucky farm dogs.  They keep the deer out of the garden, the groundhogs out of the pasture, the mice out of the house and the coyotes, both 2 legged and 4 legged, away from my door.  There are no kennel runs.  They live in the house, are couch potatoes and if they can find an open spot, sleep on or under the bed.

If you think you might be interested in one of my puppies or just want to ask questions about owning a Standard or Miniature Schnauzer, please email me at karich@embarqmail.com.
